Persephone977’s Personal Story: Coping with IBS After Gallbladder Removal

I’m 42 years old and I’ve just been officially diagnosed with IBS after spending years cycling between constipation and diarrhea. I had to have my gall bladder removed, and when my symptoms only got worse I saw a GI. He ordered an EGD and colonoscopy, and found some diverticulosis and a mild hiatal hernia, neither of which was a good explanation for my continuing symptoms. IBS was the cause, he said.

 

It’s been very frustrating, feeling so ill and not being able to do anything about it. If I hear the phrases “clear liquid diet” or “bland diet” or “probiotics” any more I think I’m going to scream. I have seen a lifetime’s worth of ER rooms in just a few months. I just hope this will eventually get better. Reading the information here has helped some. I am going to ask my PCP about seeing a registered dietitician for a FODMAP diet…
